APF Support Tas

Sadly, Tasmania is missing a state representative....We have a small number of "Friends & Supporters" of the APF who possibly would love to meet over coffee etc on the odd occasion. Are you the one to help us arrange these informal events?  If you would like to know more please click here to view our current advertisement(s).

Once again nurses Ann Muscett and Josie Okey organised an educational morning for us at Royal Hobart Hospital in December, and we thought it appropriate to take a photo in front on the Christmas Tree!

Dr. Tim Greenaway, Dr. Georgina Stilwell, Josie Okey, Ann Muscett, Daniel Blomfield and Brett McCann.

Our thanks must go to Dr. Tim Greenway who spoke on treatment options and side effects of some medications also growth hormone replacement in adults and  Dr. Georgina Stilwell who presented on hormone replacement therapy, Dr Stilwell has present for us there before on a number of occasions. Brett McCann, CEO of Impotence Australia also travelled from Sydney to present on sexuality, desire and intimacy, all of which can be affected by pituitary disease. On request our Daniel Blomfield spoke of his journey with Acromegaly.

The morning turned out fabulously well and it was a delight to come down and say hello to the patient attendees who we have met on a number of occasions now, and also meet some new faces.

The Pituitary Awareness Seminar held at Calvary Health Care, Lenah Valley, had a tremendous turnout. The roads were a little icy and we believe patients who would have normally attended were apprehensive to travel, so keeping in mind that our membership is small and in fact Tasmania has quite a small population it was pleasing to see a full room.

Hayley Howard; Mr Andrew Hunn; Dr. Roland McCallum; Rob Rothwell                           Dr. Yagnesh Balasubramani; Dr. Sandi Powell.

It was great that nurses and associated health professionals took the opportunity to learn more about the pituitary gland, what can go wrong and understand effective treatments.  Calvary Hospital, CNM of Neurosurgery Hayley Howard and her colleagues certainly took care of us. The Foundation would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who presented, ensuring the success of the day.

Royal Hobart Hospital hosted our inaugural seminar in Tasmania. They were so excited to see us that they put on a Christmas Pageant outside!  There was lots of excitement and I am sure the speakers and attendees enjoyed the music!

On a serious note - what a great turnout.  The room was full with patients, families, health professionals and sponsor representatives. Thanks must go to Anne Muskett, Nurse Unit Manager, and member Heidi Begley who assisted us in preparation for the day. The doctors and nurses were very welcoming and we would like to extend our gratitude to them for giving us their time.
